Hey @rkritiktyagi , Short answer: Yes—but not by itself.

Do people really get hired because of GitHub?

Yes, it happens, especially for:

  • Software engineers
  • Backend / frontend devs
  • Open-source contributors
  • Startups & tech-driven companies

But GitHub rarely replaces interviews, resumes, or skills. It supports them.

Do HRs actually look at GitHub?

👉 HR (non-technical):

  • Usually don’t read code
  • May just check activity, projects, and profile polish

👉 Hiring managers / tech leads:

  • Absolutely check GitHub

  • Look at:

    • Real projects (not tutorials only)
    • Code quality & structure
    • Commit history
    • README clarity
    • Problem-solving approach

When GitHub REALLY helps

  • You don’t have much work experience
